Mirror Inspiration

I seem to have an obession with mirrors, all types and all sizes. I like them because decorating with mirros is a great way to bring style to any room.

Here are few of my reasons

1. in addition to providing and alterantive to wallart, mirrors offer the addtitional benefit of addint light to any room.

2. think big ! the bigger the mirror the more light in can reflect, not only will there be light refection but i can also make a room look much larger.

3. mirrors can also provide a focal point , and will help to anchor  all of the other decorative elements  of the room.

Hemp Fabric

Hemp is one of my favourite fabrics to use. I have been using it since 1999  in various home decor projects, slip covers, draperies, just to name a few.

Hemp is one of the most eco-friendly fabrics. Hemp requires no pesticides to grow it is a renewable resource that can be culivated in as little as 100 days and is a very versatile fabric.

Hemp is a very strong fabric and is eight times that of cotton fiber. Hemp has long been long used in sails and rope for the British and American Navies.

It is also hypo-allergenic and non-irritating to the skin. Hemp has the look of linen and can also have the feel of linen ( depending on the blends). Hemp like linen will soften with age after each washing.

I am pleased to offer  two of my favorite  Hemp fabrics, both available by the metre. Both suitable for draperies, slipcovers ( great for the shabby chic look ) and upholstery.

The Sofa: Be Comfortable!

The sofa is the main anchor in a living room/family room and draws a lot of visual attention and gets frequent use.

The sofa should be comfortable, solidly built, covered with good upholstery and a style that you will not tire of easily. I purchased my sofa in 1980, a classic tuxedo style, with slim arms and loose cushions on the seat and back; in those days the rage was chintz. You remember the English Country look, big floral? Mine was blue with beige flowers.

Eight years later when we moved to Kingston, it was re-covered to a two-tone solid, then 9 years later it was slip-covered with a textured beige/cream linen. This a long time in the sofa world. The initial investment was huge, (it cost me about $100. dollars a year even with re-covering over the years). If you buy quality and style it will last and I certainly won’t be buying a new sofa; I may or may not recover again it unless it gets worn. So far, 9 years later it still looks great.
